Painter in Edina, MN

Edina's housing stock spans a wider range of construction eras than almost any other south metro city, from 1920s and 1930s Tudor revival and English cottage homes in the Country Club District and Morningside to mid-century ramblers in the Yorktown and Concord areas to newer custom builds near Centennial Lakes and Parkwood Knolls. Older homes in the Country Club District carry original wood trim, plaster walls, and exterior surfaces that have been painted many times over decades, each layer adding complexity to prep work. Mid-century ramblers throughout Morningside and the areas near Fred Richards Park have lower rooflines and horizontal siding profiles that collect moisture at lap joints. The diversity of construction eras means no two Edina painting projects are the same.

Detailed Painting for Edina's Diverse and Historic Homes

Edina's Country Club District and Morningside neighborhoods have homes built in the 1920s through 1940s with original wood trim, plaster walls, and exterior surfaces that carry decades of paint history. Prep work on these homes takes longer than on newer construction — scraping, sanding, and priming aged surfaces properly is what makes a new coat last rather than peel within a season.

Mid-century ramblers in the Yorktown and Concord areas have horizontal lap siding that collects moisture at the joints, especially on north-facing elevations. Those joints need to be caulked and primed before any topcoat goes on. Skipping that step is the most common reason exterior paint on ramblers fails at the seams before the rest of the house shows wear.

We are a family-owned operation and we bring the same care to every Edina home regardless of its age or style. For homeowners in the Country Club District or Parkwood Knolls, that means we respect the character of the home and work to preserve it — not paint over it carelessly. Integrity is the foundation of how we operate.

Every service, available in Edina, MN

Interior painting in Edina's older Country Club District and Morningside homes requires careful prep on plaster walls and original wood trim that has accumulated multiple paint layers over decades. Exterior painting on the Tudor and English cottage homes in those neighborhoods involves detailed trim work on steep gables, timber accents, and original wood window casings that demand precise cutting and the right primer for aged surfaces. Kitchen cabinet painting is a strong service fit for Edina's mid-century ramblers, where original wood cabinets are structurally sound but carry decades of wear. Enamel work on doors, trim, and built-ins is in demand across the city's established neighborhoods where detailed millwork is part of the home's character.

I have so much regret with Gold Standard Painting. Regret that I didn’t reach out to Andrew sooner because looking back at all the other times I decided to paint myself, I could’ve saved so much time, headache, mess and let’s be honest, arguments with the significant other 😂 Gold Standard Painting truly lives up to its name and more. During our basement renovation, we encountered an unexpected issue that demanded immediate attention, and that's when we were introduced to Andrew and his team. The team did an excellent job patching up the walls and ceilings, and we are very pleased with the outcome as you can tell they went above and beyond. Although the repair took longer than expected (to no one's fault - just busy schedules!), Andrew was consistently responsive, promptly addressing any questions we had and following up multiple times throughout the process. His accommodating nature was greatly appreciated, making the experience all the more positive. Highly recommend Gold Standard Painting! The only disappointment you’ll feel is if you don’t reach out to Andrew!

Gold Standard did an excellent job helping us repaint my mom’s house prior to selling it. They thoroughly prepped each room - and were even able to bring new life to a dark 70s era paneled family room. Probably most impressively was their professional approach to sourcing the right paint to address a living room with heavy smoking-stained walls & ceiling. They meet their estimates and timelines and even more important to me - are very nice, smart, experienced resources for redesign/refurb projects - referring us to a hardwood floor specialist and cleaners. I look forward to working with them again.

Andrew was really great to work with-- excellent job done, easy communication, very reasonable timeline and cost. We are very pleased, and would use Gold Standard Painting again!

Alexandra Groten Google review · July 2026

Highly recommend! Andrew was a great communicator, checking in on the project throughout. The painting was perfect and they asked me to check on if anything needed a touch up before they finished. I asked for some carpentry work in addition to painting, and Tony did amazing!

Rachel Ecklin Google review · February 2025

Great experience with Andrew and Tony from Gold Standard. Had our built in painted to freshen up the room. Received a competitive bid, excellent communication, professional attitude, and a timely job well done. We will certainly be using them again for future projects.

Painter FAQ for Edina, MN

Common questions from Edina, MN customers about our services, process, and coverage.

Yes. Homes in the Country Club District from the 1920s and 1930s have original wood trim, steep gable details, and exterior surfaces with multiple old paint layers that require thorough prep before a new coat goes on. We scrape, sand, and prime aged surfaces properly so the new coat bonds and holds rather than peeling at the edges within a season.

Mid-century ramblers in Edina's Morningside and Yorktown areas have horizontal lap siding that collects moisture at the joints on north-facing elevations. The most important step is cleaning, caulking open joints, and priming bare wood before any topcoat goes on. That prep is what prevents the most common failure point — peeling at the siding seams — from showing up within the first year.

Kitchen cabinet painting is a regular service we provide in Edina, particularly in mid-century ramblers where original wood cabinets are still solid but carry decades of wear and outdated finish. We use hard-drying enamel finishes that hold up to daily kitchen use and give the cabinets a clean, updated look without the cost of replacement.

Yes. Plaster walls in Edina's older homes require different prep than drywall — hairline cracks need to be filled and sanded, and the surface needs the right primer so the new paint adheres evenly without flashing. We assess the wall condition before starting and address any problem areas so the finished coat looks smooth and consistent.
